On Sunday, April 7 from 5-9 we will hold the NCFBS Blues Jam at Cypress & Grove (1001 NW 4th St, Gainesville). Come on down and play some Blues with us! Host band will be The Shakedown featuring Michelle Banfield. No cover charge, but please enjoy some delicious beers!  We are happy to have the jam back!  If you are happy, too, please attend the first jam of 2019.  If we get a good-sized crowd, it gives us a good shot at having a permanent home for the jam.   If you want to participate in the members’ appreciation party, show up early, as it runs from 3-5.

Other great events:

Friday, April 5, Heartwood Soundstage (619 S. Main Street, Gainesville). Amazing triple-headlining Blues show including the soulful vocals and sax playing of BMA-nominated Vanessa Collier, the Chicago Blues of Little Mike & the Tornadoes, and the high-energy Memphis/Texas hybrid Blues of the Bridget Kelly Band! $30 for general admission, $15 for North Central Florida Blues Society members!

Vanessa Collier is a soulful singer, talented multi-instrumentalist best known for her saxophone playing, a true rising star in the Blues, and good enough to be called “amazing” by the legendary Buddy Guy. She is a five-time Blues Music Award nominee, including two nominations this year, Contemporary Blues Female Artist – (alongside Samantha Fish, Danielle Nicole, Shemekia Copeland, and Beth Hart) and Instrumentalist: Horn.  A 2013 graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, she’s toured nationally and internationally, and received notice for her vocals, searing saxophone, and witty songwriting. Vanessa is blazing a trail, racking up an impressive arsenal of honors, and has already singled herself out as an artist of distinction and one we would all do well to watch.

And I hope you all know how great Little Mike & the Tornadoes and the Bridget Kelly Band are by now!
