The North Central Florida Blues Society is excited to bring the finest in Acoustic Blues to Gainesville.  On June 9, EG Kight plays a solo acoustic gig at Heartwood Soundstage. And on July 28, Doug MacLeod returns.

And if there’s any question if these artists are truly the best in Acoustic Blues, a trip to will show that they are both nominated for a Blues Music Award for Acoustic Blues Album, and MacLeod is also nominated for Acoustic Blues Artist.

Over the years EG KIGHT has emerged as a preeminent voice in roots music. CityBeat Cincinnati writes that Kight is “a cross between Bonnie Raitt’s bourbon-stung growl and Phoebe Snow’s emotive warble.”   In her 25+ years in the Blues, Kight has entertained on stages around the world, and has received 19 various music industry nominations, including nine for Female Artist of the Year, three for Song of the Year, and four for Album of the Year.  And her 2023 release, STICKS & STRINGS, was nominated for the 2024 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Album of the Year.

Kight is an indisputable triple threat – as singer, songwriter, and guitar player – with her own unique blend of “country flavored southern fried Blues”, her music appeals to fans across the genres. Her songwriting is a true strength, evidenced by her original songs being recorded by Koko Taylor, Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women, Dorothy Moore, and Ann Rabson & Bob Margolin, among other luminaries.

“…a real gem, one of a handful of artists who reach out and make a personal connection with the audience.  Her warm personality, humor, harmonies with her trio, and stellar songwriting cut across the Blues spectrum, all delivered with a dynamic stage presence.” Gary Anton, Bradfordville Blues Club, Tallahassee, FL.

Doug MacLeod is a prolific singer, songwriter, engaging storyteller, and masterful guitarist, and he has become one of today’s most award-winning and loved acoustic Blues artists still touring today. And Doug returns to Gainesville, Florida to play Heartwood Soundstage, Gainesville’s finest listening room, courtesy of the North Central Florida Blues Society.

He has won seven Blues Music Awards, including the Award for Acoustic Artist Of The Year in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2023, and Acoustic Album of The Year in 2014 and 2018. Doug is an international touring artist who writes and sings original songs that are based on his own life and experiences. He learned from the old masters and carries forward a valuable tradition. Doug subscribes to the philosophies he learned from country Bluesman Ernest Banks: “Never play a note you don’t believe” and “Never write or sing about what you don’t know about.”

“Like all great Blues men, MacLeod lives his music, and the songs are not just on the tips of his fingers and tongue, they are one with his being.
