Not Sunday, like usual, this a Saturday night show! And it’s very special because of the talent on stage!
Also: The High Dive now has much more seating available for the Blues shows, although it’s still advised to get there as early as possible.
Selwyn Birchwood returns to Gainesville for this special NCFBS Saturday show. The Wall Street Journal says this Alligator Recording artist is “fiery and original.” Rolling Stone calls him a powerhouse player and emotive performer. Influenced by Buddy Guy and mentored by Sonny Rhodes, the 2013 International Blues Challenge winner’s high-octane Blues is deeply rooted, funky and up-to-the-minute is played with passion and honest emotion. See why the Washington Post says “Selwyn Birchwood is an indelibly modern and original next-generation bluesman his tough vocals, guitar and lap steel touch on classic Chicago Blues, Southern soul and boogie.”
The Ramblin’ Mutts (formerly known as the R. Mutt Blues Band) are two-time North Central Florida Blues Society International Blues Challenge winners and competed in Memphis with Birchwood the year he won the competition. Joined by a smoking horn section, the band will be playing a set that includes a selection of new original compositions that are inspired by classic Blues and soul along with some favorite Blues tunes, all preformed with a contemporary sensibility complemented by outstanding musicianship.
Doors open at 8 pm with the Ramblin’ Mutts taking the stage at 9 pm, and Birchwood beginning at 10:30 pm.
