We at the North Central Florida Blues Society celebrate the life of Hubert Sumlin!  Sumlin (November 16, 1931 – December 4, 2011) rose to prominence as Howlin’ Wolf’s  guitarist.

The importance of Sumlin to Howlin’ Wolf is best illustrated by the  The London Howlin’ Wolf Sessions album, recorded in 1970, where record company executives thought that surrounding Howlin’ Wolf with star English musicians, including Eric Clapton and whatever Rolling Stones or Beatles members they could get would be a great idea, but Clapton himself insisted that Sumlin needed to be flown over the Atlantic as well if they wanted this to be a quality album.

We at the North Central Florida Blues Society also celebrate Sumlin because of his long association with our own Little Mike. See Mike blowing harp in between Sumlin and Jimmy Rogers in the picture above!
