The North Central Florida Blues Society is happy to announce that Zora Young is coming to Gainesville on Sunday, March 12 as part of NCFBS’s Quarterly Concert Series.
With the ability to deliver no-nonsense gut bucket Blues as well as heart-felt gospel, Zora Young is one of the handful of legitimate Chicago Blues artists still delivering live performances that are true to the blueprint yet highly creative and vibrant today. Young, originally on historic Delmark Records, is a 2014 Koko Taylor Award nominee and arguably the best female vocalist on the today’s Chicago Blues scene.
Young is a cousin of Howlin’ Wolf, a veteran of more than 30 tours of Europe, and has been a featured performer seven times at the prestigious Chicago Blues Festival, including headlining in 2006. It has been said that she “sings with a bold, unhurried, honesty that seems like a confession…Her innate sense of phrasing and her supreme confidence never overshadow her quiet dignity.” She’s been called the Princess of the Blues. See why Blueprint magazine rightly said she “belongs in the upper echelon of female Blues singers.”
Zora hits the High Dive stage at 8 pm. Cassie and Company open the show, starting at 7 pm.
