The North Central Florida Blues Society (NCFBS) is pleased to announce that award-winning Blues artist Tinsley Ellis will play downtown Gainesville at the High Dive on Sunday, February 22.
Tinsley Ellis, one of the most exciting Blues artists for the past three decades is a hard-touring Bluesman that has honed his skills on the road, having played all 50 states as well as Canada, Europe, Australia and South America.
According to Billboard Magazine, “nobody has released more consistently excellent blues albums than Atlanta’s Tinsley Ellis. He sings like a man possessed and wields a mean lead guitar.” Chicago Magazine praised his “fiery fretwork and passionate vocals.” Rolling Stone Magazine compared his guitar playing to Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.
The opening act is North Central Florida’s Pete Karnes Blues Band. Karnes played with the legendary John Lee Hooker for many years. Hooker was so impressed with Karnes’ harmonica playing he called him “the king of the boogie harp”.
The doors open at 6, with Karnes playing at 7 pm, and Ellis at 8 pm. Admission is $15 for general public, $8 for NCFBS members and $5 for students.
The NCFBS is a not-for-profit organization organized to preserve, cultivate, nurture and promote the blues in the Gainesville area, and is funded in part by the Alachua County Tourist Development Tax. The High Dive is located at 210 SW 2nd Ave in downtown Gainesville.
