On Sunday December 9, the North Central Florida Blues Society is throwing a birthday party for guitarist extraordinaire Tim Fik of the Bridget Kelly Band and as a perfect fit to Fik’s stature, it’s a star-studded event featuring Blues virtuosos with a rock edge.
The triple headliner event stars The Danielle Nicole Band, Anthony Gomes, and the Bridget Kelly Band. Special guests include the Mark Telesca Band and star drummer Sonny Rock.
The Danielle Nicole Band is fronted by award-winning bassist and vocalist Danielle Nicole of Kansas City, formerly of Trampled Under Foot. Her powerful and soulful voice and distinctive, inventive bass work, which resulted in her becoming the first woman to win the Blues Music Award in 2014 for Best Instrumentalist, Bass, is the product of years of intensive touring. Joe Bonamassa named Danielle Nicole one of the “Best Modern Blues Musicians” and American Blues Scene said “her authoritative vocals leave listeners breathless.” Bass Player magazine said “she can drive a low-down groove with a style that combines robust, roadhouse authority with sneaky and slippery melody lines.”
“It’s empowering, walking onto a stage full of grown men who can play their asses off, and it’s ‘OK, I’m gonna play this bass, we’re gonna do this, and it’s gonna rock, “Danielle said. “I really love being part of the groove and getting to sing on top of that.”
Anthony Gomes is a Canadian Blues Rock guitarist that first became well known for his shredding Hendrix-esque guitar, but lately has been recognized as a well-rounded performer and songwriter. Blues Rock Review said “With his powerful picking attack and Hendrix on krank phrasing, Anthony’s guitar playing sounds as good as ever. He tears up lead after lead, with soulful lines peppered with bursts of shred. He also has a great sense of melody. He’s got all the soul of an Otis Redding …and all the swagger of Steven Tyler.” His latest album, “Electric Field Holler,” reached No. 1 on both Roots Music Report’s Blues Rock Chart and ReverbNation’s Global Blues Chart as well as earning several nominations for Blues Rock Album of the Year.
Inspired by classic and electric Blues, the Gainesville-based Bridget Kelly Band has placed their unique stamp on the Blues genre, with high-energy live performances and a hybrid sound that mixes Texas and Memphis Blues with various southern Blues traditions. The powerful and sultry vocals of singer Bridget Kelly along with the incendiary lead guitar work of Tim Fik forge a signature hybrid sound that combines female urban Blues with riff-driven rockin’ Blues guitar. Boasting a rock-solid rhythm section comprised of the powerful and dynamic Tim Mulberry on drums and the seasoned Mark Armbrecht on bass, their star continues to shine and rise.
Their continued success has been largely attributed to its insistence of giving it their all, every time they take the stage. Their passion for the music is evident in the energy of their live shows.
“Kelly’s voice is always powerful and pure, pushing through the ripping fretwork of her blues-partner and band guitarist Tim Fik, a guy with chops, licks and riffs to spare.” – Iain Patience, Blues Magazine.
General Admission is $20, but North Central Florida Blues Society members get in for $10. Veterans and students with ID are admitted for $5. Advance tickets are available at: https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/1782871
