The North Central Florida Blues Society is excited to announce that the Snacks Blues Band will headline the free Downtown Blues Concert on November 5, kicking off the festive weekend that includes the 40th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show.
The Snacks Blues Band creates predominantly original music that draws heavily from the deepest of Blues traditions and infuses a wide variety of modern influences. The trio, based out of Jacksonville, Florida has performed together for over 15 years, winning the 2013 St. Johns River Blues Festival, independently releasing their own albums and performing all across the South. The Snacks feature the powerful, barrel-chested vocals and rhythmic juke-joint harmonica stylings of John-Michael Brown, the lead tones and delta-style fingerpicking of Brian Boos on guitar, and the versatile percussion of “Mad” Matt Schaeffer.
Brown and Boos, who were childhood friends, formed the original iteration of The Snacks after Brown returned from his first Army combat tour of Iraq in 2003. The two debuted as a Blues duo. In the Spring of 2012, after many successes as a duo, Matt, another childhood friend, was added and The Snacks continued on as a trio.
In 2019 they reached the semifinals of the 35th Annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
Blues Meet Girl (7 pm) and The Good Voodoo (8 pm) will also perform, by virtue of winning the North Central Florida Blues Society Blues Challenge!
