Terry Hanck and Zora Young with Little Mike & the Tornadoes. Doors open at 6:00 and the music starts at 7:00.

After 30-odd years of playing alongside more celebrated blues artists like Elvin Bishop, Etta James, Albert Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Miller, Robert Cray, and Charlie Musselwhite, Terry Hanck has become a star as a solo performer. He has been nominated six times for the Blues Music Award, and was a winner in 2012 for best horn player. Hanck was also nominated for Song of the Year in 2012.

Hanck played the Bo Diddley Community Plaza in 2007, supporting Chris Cain. The crowd of over 2000 people was amazed by Hanck and many rushed the merchandising tent demanding to know who that sax player is and where they can buy his CDs.

Here’s a few notable quotes:

“Terry Hanck is a fine vocalist, an amazing showman and my favorite sax player.” – Elvin Bishop

“Hanck is one of the most formidable saxophonists in the blues and soul business. He has a virile tone and attack and an uncanny command of upper-register notes.”  – Living Blues

“If you don’t know Terry Hanck, you are missing some exciting, tenor sax-driven blues and soul. This Chicago native…is steeped in those genre’s traditions as a musician, singer and songwriter.”   -Elmore Magazine

“Hanck’s voice is a marvel. He can make it growl, ache, croon, moan and tease, and then some. It is a superb instrument in its own right. I also can’t say enough about the emergence of Johnny Soubrand as a lead guitarist of originality, fire and consummate grace. He proves here he is among the emerging great ones.”   -James Jordan, Golden Gate Blues News

“Tenor sax player Terry Hanck sings like he blows, sweetly, with a touch of grit. “ — Blues Revue

Zora Young is a 2014 Koko Taylor Award nominee and arguably the best female vocalist on the today’s Chicago blues scene. Young, a cousin of Howlin’ Wolf, is a veteran of more than 30 tours of Europe, and has been a featured performer seven times at the Chicago Blues Festival, including headlining in 2006. You can see why she’s been called the Princess of the Blues. Young will be backed by Little Mike & the Tornadoes.

So if Chicago Blues or greasy R&B is your thing this is an event not to miss! Interest in this show is huge, so I recommend showing up early.
