The North Central Florida Blues Society (NCFBS) is pleased to announce that Selwyn Birchwood, the 2103 International Blues Challenge winner, will play downtown Gainesville at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza on Friday, November 7.
The opening acts are Rick Randlett and the Bridget Kelly Band, Gainesville-area artists that will represent the area at the 2015 International Blues Challenge.
The 29-year-old Birchwood has played many of the major Blues festivals this year, including the Chicago Blues Festival. “There’s nothing I’d rather be doing than playing the blues,” Birchwood says. “And I try to convey that with every song and with every performance.”
Birchwood’s new album Don’t Call No Ambulance topped the Blues charts earlier this year with its driving, up-tempo take on various blues styles, including a Buddy Guy influence.
The show starts at 7 pm with Rick Randlett, followed by the Bridget Kelly Band playing at 8 pm, and Birchwood at 9 pm.
The NCFBS is a not-for-profit organization organized to preserve, cultivate, nurture and promote the blues in the Gainesville area, and is funded in part by the Alachua County Tourist Development Tax.
