The North Central Florida Blues Society (NCFBS) is pleased to announce that award-winning Blues singer Janiva Magness will play downtown Gainesville at the High Dive on Sunday, August 24.
Janiva Magness was the 2009 BB King Entertainer of the Year, and one of only two women to win this prestigious award, along with Koko Taylor. Her powerful and warm voice has won her numerous awards, including the 2013 Blues Music Award winner for Song of the year and five Blues Music Awards for Contemporary Blues Female Artist. She has been called “a bold and potent artist of the highest order” by Blues Revue.
The opening act is Root Redemption, a Gainesville-area band. All four band members have competed in the International Blues Challenge in various bands, including the Used Blues Band and Middleground.
The doors open at 6, with Root Redemption playing at 7 pm, and Magness at 8 pm.
The NCFBS is a not-for-profit organization organized to preserve, cultivate, nurture and promote the blues in the Gainesville area, and is funded in part by the Alachua County Tourist Development Tax.
