For those of you that love acoustic Blues, especially performed by a master storyteller and songwriter, I highly recommend seeing Doug MacLeod at Heartwood Soundstage, Gainesville’s premiere listening room on July 7, presented by the North Central Florida Blues Society. Doors are at 7, music starts at 8.
Doug MacLeod is a treasure. If you’ve seen this man perform in person, you’ll understand, and will probably do all you can to see him again! If you haven’t yet, let me TRY to express what an experience it is. Yes, he’s a great singer, and yes he’s a fantastic guitar player, but what is powerful about him is his story telling, and that it is REAL.
A mentor once told him “Never play a note you don’t believe” and “Never write or sing about what you don’t know about”. He has taken these lessons to heart and because of this he’s not just singing a song – it comes from his heart – he feels this, he knows this, and the moving emotional connection comes through because it is REAL.
He doesn’t cover other people’s songs; he plays his own compositions, and he has written over 300 songs. In case you are wondering how good of a songwriter he is, Albert King, Eva Cassidy, Albert Collins, Papa John Creach, and Son Seals, among many others, have recorded HIS songs.
And to see him in an intimate environment and in a comfortable listening room environment such as Heartwood Soundstage, I can’t think of a more enjoyable evening. It’s not just a concert; it’s a moving experience.
Note: we always keep an updated list of members at our concerts, but membership cards will be available and handed out at the Doug MacLeod show. Please see Rob Richardson for your card. Cards will be mailed out the following week to those that were not present.
