There a lot of fun Blues coming your way!

On March 3, the Suncoast Blues Festival is at The Sarasota Fair Grounds. You can purchase tickets at https://www.suncoastbluesfestival.com/tickets.  The lineup includes many great acts, including Lurrie Bell and  The Monster Mike Welch/Mike Ledbetter Band.

On March 17, there is the Blues Canoe Cruise.  Join friends from two local nonprofits, Our Santa Fe River and the North Central Florida Blues Society, for an enjoyable paddle of the Santa Fe River from Hwy 27 to Rum Island. Rendezvous at Lazy Turtle Lodge’s beautiful riverfront lawn and enjoy an old-style picnic with live music featuring award-winning Bear & Robert.

Paddlers will meet at the State Road 27 Bridge just north of High Springs to unload boats and gear. Paddlers will have the option of taking their vehicles to Rum Island Park and catch a shuttle back to the boats or shuttling themselves. Paddlers should bring picnic lunch and liquids, blanket or chair. (Rum 138 is offering shuttle, lunch and canoe and kayak discounts for this event.) The event goes from 9:30 AM1 PM. Music is expected to start around 11.

And on March 24, the amazing 21 Blue featuring Longineu Parsons and Ted Shumate plays Heartwood Soundstage. 21 Blue is Blues for the 21st century, the nexus at which authentic down & dirty Blues meets world-class Jazz. This quintessential intersection of Blues and Jazz features the world-renowned musicians trumpeter Longineu Parsons II and guitarist Ted Shumate, resulting in authentic Blues played at an impeccable level of musicianship – world-class musicians who express the heart and soul of American music! 21 Blue will take you from Louis Armstrong to Howlin’ Wolf to Miles Davis to Jimi Hendrix and beyond. This group does what no other group can in terms of playing the history of American music and making you love the fact that you are there to dance to it.  And as if that wasn’t enough, Middleground will also perform!

Middleground consists of Barbara and Mark Armbrecht and is the product of over 35 years of collaboration between these two professional musicians. The music has evolved over the years to now include an eclectic mix of folk, pop, Blues, ragtime and classic favorites, all of which have been flavored by Barbara’s finger picking style, use of open tunings and occasional use of slide and supported by Mark’s solid and expressive bass technique. Middleground participated in the 2013 International Blues Challenge and Barbara competed as a solo act in 2016.
